Whitegate PR brings your organization’s market share to the next level via tuned-in online marketing and public relations in a cost-effective way. Whitegate PR specializes in delivering multi-faceted marketing and strategic public relations campaigns which effectively reach target audiences to meet and exceed client goals. Dana Humphrey is the Founder & Lead Publicist at Whitegate PR.
How long has your business been in existence?
Whitegate PR began in southern California in 2007.
What made you decide to start your own business?
I was working full-time as an in-house PR specialist for a pet boutique chain in San Diego, California, while consulting part-time for Whitegate PR. I wanted to move to a big city because San Diego was a little too boring for me. My grand plan was to go to San Francisco, but I applied for a job in NYC and got it! I moved to NYC ten days after accepting the job. Two months later, I was laid off on a Thursday. The very next day, a client I was consulting through Whitegate PR called and asked that I make myself available for more hours. I have been running my business full-time since that day.
What sets you apart from your competition?
I have been able to position myself as a pet expert, "The Pet Lady." I have a logo, website, twitter handle and trademark for The Pet Lady, which really sets me apart. Learn more at http://www.thepetlady.net/
Who’s your target clientele?
Whitegate PR specializes in working with pet product manufacturers and experts to help grow awareness about their businesses.
What service(s) did you use Ankhi-Krol Law for?
Ankhi-Krol Law filed my trademark and helped me succeed in acquiring the trademark registration for "The Pet Lady."
Why is that service(s) necessary/important in your industry?
Patents, trademarks, and copyrights are extremely important for pet product manufacturers. It's the only way to stand out and resist getting your ideas stolen!
What’s your advice for others in your industry who are in need of legal help?
When I just started my business, I tried to be every department - accounting, legal etc... It's not doable. Let the experts handle their expertise. Leave the PR to the Public Relations professionals and the legal help to the lawyers! The quicker you learn this as a business owner, the better off you will be.
What was your overall professional experience with Ankhi-Krol Law?
As an IP Lawyer in the pet industry, Shahrina Ankhi-Krol assisted me in securing a trademark for "The Pet Lady." She was such a pleasure to work with - there were no surprises, she laid it all out to me up front and followed-up in a timely manner with dedication. She is professional, thorough and passionate! I highly recommend Shahrina for your legal needs.

About Ankhi-Krol Law
Ankhi-Krol Law is a boutique law firm located in the heart of Midtown, New York City. The firm takes pride in working with all types of businesses in the areas of business law, contract law, trademark law, and copyright law. Ankhi-Krol Law has a niche focus in the following industries: Pet, Fashion, Art.
Shahrina Ankhi-Krol founded Ankhi-Krol Law (www.ankhikrollaw.com) with the goal of providing legal representation to small business owners after noticing that small business owners are often uninformed or ill-informed of the law. As a result, they either attempt to solve legal problems on their own or do nothing at all. Both courses of action are dangerous as “un-doing” a legal mistake – either through misfeasance or nonfeasance – costs more money and time than would have been spent if the business owners obtained legal counsel from the start. Ms. Ankhi-Krol not only provides legal representation, but also provides business counseling to her clients in order to identify and address small problems before they become unmanageable.
